ISLAND LASTOVO
Lastovo is a beautiful small Island located in the south of Croatia (Adriatic Sea). It is among ten Mediterranean Islands that have the most preserved original value of untouched nature and beauty.
It´s surrounded by 46 smaller islands and cliffs with untouched nature and numerous bays.
Lastovo is known from early 4th century BC written sources under the name of Ladesta or Ladeston. It was given the name “Augusta insula” during Roman times by the emperor Augustus, appears as [Insula] Ladestris on the Tabula Peutingeriana, and in medieval sources as Augusta, Lagusta or Lagosta. The Slavic form of the name – Lastobon, Lastovo – became current from the 10th century AD
Now, there are more than 30 churches and chapels on the island, some of them originating from ancient times. City Lastovo is the centre of island with beautiful family houses from 15th to 16th century decorated with cylindrical chimneys and high board terraces wich have become a trademark of Lastovo.
Near Lastovo in last century (1985 and later) divers discovered intact site with the remains of an ancient trade vessel at a depth of approximately 35m on the rocky sea bottom.
It consisted of some hundred Lamboglia 2 type amphorae (used for transporting oil), a ceramic ship altar, and several smaller vessels that probably belonged to the ship's galley. Remains of the ship's wooden construction were not found (they probably completely rotted), while the lead stock of the ship's anchor was previously taken out by the divers.
According to the shape of the material, the goods were from central or southern Italy from around the 2nd c. BC.
What makes this site so special in comparison with other ones in the Adriatic is that nearly all amphorae stuck onto the rocky sea bottom which represents a picturesque site.
This called for preserving the remains in situ as an attractive destination for the ever increasing number of tourist especially divers. Having searched the site and completed the documents, the site was covered by an iron net that enabled close examination, but at the same time protected from possible damage.
You should also visit this history value under the Sea!

ISLAND MLJET
If you like diving you will be impressed by Mljet underwater museum!

Mljet is the first larger island one comes upon while sailing the Croatian Adriatic from direction - Dubrovnik to North and it´s belongs to the Dubrovnik group of islands.
It’s Croatia's greenest island 37 km long and 3 km wide, with its Mediterranean vegetation, clear and clean sea, gentle sandy shoreline and a wealth of underwater sea life. Northern part of the island of Mljet is also one of Croatian National Parks, and is therefore, one of the favorite destinations both travelers and divers. Mljet was discovered by ancient Greco Roman geographies who wrote the first records and descriptions about it. Mljet became a National park since November 12, 1960.
Ancient Greeks called this island "Melita" or „honey“ .Over the centuries  the old name evolved to become the  Slavic name - Mljet.
Close to this island divers have found about hundred sporadic sites from the 3rd century period before Christ to modern ceramics of the 16th and 17 centuries. Most of the findings belong to the late antiquity period and the Byzantine predominance between the 4th and 6th centuries which is probably connected to the late antiquity fort in the locality of Polaca.
Examining the submarine near the mentioned locality, numerous remains of late antiquity breakwaters have been found, and all examined localities and sporadic findings have been documented on the spot, under the Sea.
